Mary Leona Catherine (Lashbrook) Peschka 1935 - 2019

ST. JOHN — Mom, Mary Leona Catherine (Lashbrook) Peschka was born July 4, 1935 in Great Bend, Kan. She passed away Nov. 18th in Wichita. Her parents were Donald and Leona (Marmie) Lashbrook. They’ve both been dead a long time. Mom was also preceded in death by her step-dad, Bernard (Buzzy) Murray and her husband, our dad, Lawrence (Sonny) Peschka. Mom’s brother, Uncle Jimmy Lashbrook, lives in Houston and her sister, Aunt Donna Lashbrook, lives in Tulsa. There are five of us kids still living (we lost brother Kevin Peschka, Mom’s oldest son seven years ago). Mom graduated from Great Bend High School in 1953 and married our Dad later that year. They moved to Kansas City, Mo., and had four of us six kids. Dad graduated from pharmacy school, which was good because there were four of us. By the end of it, there were six of us altogether, three boys, three girls. We are all alive except brother Kev, like we mentioned earlier. Renee is married to Dick Young and they live in Wichita. Lorene Peschka lives in St. John, Tanya and her husband, Larry Shryock live in Cheney, Steven and his wife Margie are in Wichita and Blaine lives in Hutchinson. Oh, that’s all in Kansas. Mom has 15 grandkids, 22 greats and two great-greats. That’s kinda, well, great. Mom worked for Dillons for 25 years. She was the Scanning Manager for the last five years of her Dillons career. Mom excelled at Bridge and loved playing the game. She sang in the church choir, attended Rebekah meetings, was on the city zoning committee, worked elections, and spoiled her grandkids. A lot. She never missed a school play, concert, or cross country meet. She taught us, no, she WAS the definition of unconditional love. And she was happy. May we continue her legacy.

Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, with a Vigil service to start at 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, St. John, with Father Michael Klag officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Memorials may be given to the St. John Altar Society in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
