GREAT BEND — Melba J. Helm Sunley, 82, died May 24 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
She was born October 13, 1928, at Winfield, the daughter of Boyd and Virginia (Hobbs) Meyer. She married Carl Fritz Helm June 10, 1947 at Chandler, Okla. He died February 14, 1981. She married Marion William Sunley October 15, 1988 at Great Bend. He died September 20, 2010.
She was a bookkeeper for Mid-Continent, L. P. Service, Five Oaks; and Dr. Perry Schuetz. Mrs. Sunley was a longtime Great Bend resident, retiring in Kingston, Okla. She was a member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed painting, quilting and sewing.
Survivors include two sons: Carl Helm and wife Connie, Great Bend; Mark Helm and wife Sheila, Great Bend; two daughters, Claudia Arnold and husband Bruce, Salina; Anne Butler and husband Brent, Centerview, Mo.; a stepson, Ralph Sunley and wife Diana, Great Bend; two sisters, Nola Self and husband Howard, Kingston, Okla.; Margaret McConnell, Kingston, Okla.; a brother, Bob Meyer and wife Lennie, Kingston, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lila Girton, and a grandson, Kevin.
A funeral service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 27 at the Bryant Funeral Home with Officiant The Reverend William F. Johnson. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday, both at Bryant Funeral Home.
