Melvin J. Maneth, 78, of Great Bend, died Oct. 16 at his home. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, at Shaffer, the son of John and Anna (Haberman) Maneth. He married LaRue Legleiter on June 11, 1957, at Olmitz. He was a retired farmer and rural letter carrier. He was a Great Bend resident for three years, coming from rural Albert.
Mr. Maneth was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2100, Olmitz. He was a former member of the USD 403 Board of Education, Timken Co-op Board, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church Board, Timken. He was a volunteer for the Jefferson Elementary School EARS program.
Survivors include his wife, LaRue Maneth, of the home; three sons, James Maneth and wife Carla and John Maneth and wife Traci, all of Great Bend, and Jeffrey Maneth of Belleville, Wash.; one daughter, Marla Hungerford and husbandf Charles of Omaha, Neb.; a half brother, Eugene Maneth of Olmitz; three grandchildren, Trevor Maneth and wife Michel of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Kalee and Jared Maneth of Great Bend; and two stepgrandchildren, Aaron Andrews of Great Bend and Nathan Andrews and wife Tracey of Ellis.
A vigil service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Reginald A. Urban celebrant. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial funds are established for the Prince of Peace Parish and for the Albert Fire Department, and donations may be made in care of the funeral home.
