LARNED — Michael (Mike) A. Giles, 67, passed away Dec. 23, 2016, at Country Living of Larned. Born May 11, 1949, in Stafford he was the son of Benjamin M. and LaVera Schartz Giles. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer, rancher and a commodities broker. He loved the simple life and lived on his own terms. He enjoyed being outside on a Kansas farm, loved dogs, riding his motorcycle and frequently talked about how proud he was to be a Dad and Grandpa. He wanted his kids to be raised with an appreciation for laughter and music, which they all enjoy today.
Mike was a former Garfield and Pawnee County CO-OP board member and a former Orange township board member. He is a member of the KIOGA and president of Arnies Oil Co.
Survivors include, a son, Brian M. Giles of Tainan, Taiwan; two daughters, Nancy R. Giles of Phoenix, Ariz. and Kelly (Brian) Nuss, of Silverdale, Wash.; a step-son, Kirby (Kris) Hagans; two brothers, Benjamin (Charlene) Giles, of Wichita and Rex Giles of Larned; two sisters, Mary Giles, and Marty (Tim) Dryden, both of Larned; five grandchildren, Colton Nuss, Levi Nuss, Macey Nuss, Juliana Giles-Remedi and Kade Hagans; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 9 at Glory Be. Memorials may be given to the Welcome Inn Senior Center or the Pawnee County Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home. Personal condolences may be left at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
