PIEDMONT, Okla. — Michael (Mike) K. Komarek, age 73, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023 in Piedmont, Okla. He was born Feb. 10, 1950 in Spearville, Kan., to Mark and Melba (Barton) Komarek.
Beginning his childhood in Spearville, Kan., he spent his school years in Great Bend, Kan., graduating in 1968. He served in the United States Navy from 1970 – 1975 as a communications technician at Glynco Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Ga. Mike married Carla Juergensen in 1971, and they returned to Great Bend, Kan. where he attended Barton County Community College. He spent his career as a petroleum engineer for Baker Hughes, retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Melba Komarek; sister, Terry Graham, and brother, Leonard Komarek. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carla, of their home in Piedmont, Okla.; sons, Joshua Komarek and wife Kacey of Owensboro, Kent., and Stuart Komarek and wife Michelle of Piedmont, Okla.; grandchildren, Jack, Ethan, Ella, Sutton, Kason and Gabe; and brother, Stan Komarek of Salina, Kan.

His life will be celebrated at 3 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Yukon, Okla. The disposition of his cremated remains will be per Mike’s choice of landscape.
