ELLINWOOD — Mike Strobl, 78, died Aug. 8, 2014 at his home in Ellinwood. Born on March 18, 1936, in Great Bend, he was raised by Nick and Alice Klepper of Ellinwood. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Jeanie Brown in Phoenix, Ariz. A lifetime Ellinwood area resident, he was co-owner of Strobl-Yarmer Construction.
Mike served in the United States Army during the Korean War, was a member of the American Legion, and a volunteer firefighter for 28 years.
Survivors include wife, Jeanie (Brown) Strobl of the home; son, Scott (Maureen) Strobl, of Chicago, Ill.; daughters, Susan (Brian) Burrus, of Wichita, and Laura (Steve) Schaffer, Denver, Colo.; brothers, Kenneth Klepper, Great Bend, Ray Klepper, San Antonio, Texas; sister, Roberta Berry, of Estes Park, Colo.; and grandchildren, Ben, Mark, and Patrick Burrus, John and Kate Schaffer, and Michael Strobl.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with burial to follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. The Altar Society will pray a rosary at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and there will be a 7 p.m. Vigil service also at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health - Hospice and “Kans for Kids Fall Fun Festival” (a local event benefiting children with cancer in Barton County) in care of the funeral home.
