Nicholas L. Nick Stremel 1953 - 2012

ALBERT — Nicholas L. “Nick” Stremel, 58, died Jan. 2, 2012 at his home in Albert.
Born Feb. 10, 1953 in Hays, he was the son of Edwin August and Lillian Marie (Pfannenstiel) Stremel. On Nov. 25, 1978, he married Marie A. Danek in Great Bend. He was a resident of Albert since 1986, after residing in Arkansas City, Winfield and Great Bend. He was the owner and operator of Stremel Oilfield Service. He loved to farm and loved his grandchildren.
Mr. Stremel was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, Parish Council, and Eucharistic Minister, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2100, of Olmitz.
Survivors include his wife, Marie A. Stremel, of the home; two sons, Adam Stremel, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Edwin Stremel, Pittsburg; two daughters, Krystal “Kristi” Ocker and her husband Paul, Minneapolis; and Nicole “Nikki” Stevens and her husband Josh, Pawnee Rock; a brother, Sam Stremel and his wife Rhonda, Great Bend; three sisters, Margie Linsner and her husband Bob, Wichita; Patti Denson, Bangor, Pa., and his twin, Vicki Gregory and her husband Terry, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Reilly Smith, Calleah Stevens, P.J. Ocker, Lillee Stevens, Kaleb Ocker and Phlynn Ocker.
A vigil service with a Knights of Columbus Rosary, is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at the Bryant Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Celebrant The Most Reverend Ronald M. Gilmore. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery North. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Hospice Care of Kansas or Cancer Center of Kansas or Vocations of Diocese of Dodge City or Dominican Sisters, in care of the Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
