BURDETT — Norma Katherine (Weilert) Delaney, 82, died June 18, 2018 at Dove Estates Senior Living Community in Goddard.
She was born in Marshfield, Mo. October 10, 1935, to Clarence and Cecilia (Meis) Weilert. She married Jack Delaney from Ness City, on November 30, 1957, and they enjoyed 53 years together.
Norma graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Wichita in 1953. Shortly after marriage, she moved with Jack to Burdett, where they were members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church until its closure, and then members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned.
She worked at the local bank for several years, after which she became a full-time mother, homemaker, and contributor to the community. She was an active member of many local clubs and organizations, including American Legion Auxiliary, Burdett Senior Center and Shiley Homemakers Club. She was a longtime Emergency Medical Technician as part of Burdett EMS, and served a brief term as councilwoman of the City of Burdett.
While she enjoyed reading and playing cards and games, she was happiest when cooking and entertaining. She took great pleasure in coordinating meals for large gatherings, and making delicious handmade Christmas candy, both of which she shared generously.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Delaney and Tiffany Barry-Delaney, Boyds, Md. Also left to mourn her passing are younger sisters Imelda Rhoads, Tulsa, Okla.; and Teresa Robert, Wichita; as well as younger brothers Kenneth, Raymond, Donald, Delbert, and William Weilert, also of Wichita, and their spouses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and older sister, Delores House.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. She will be laid in her final resting place following the service at the Brown’s Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Burdett EMS, American Legion Auxiliary Post 280, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Please send the memorials to Beckwith Mortuary P.O. Box 477, Larned, KS, 67550.
