ELLINWOOD — On Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022, Nova Ann Frick Bowman, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 86.
Nova was born in Hollis, Okla., June 5th, 1935, to Odell (Hays) and Earl Smith. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1953. She received her Associates Degree from Frank Phillips Community College. Received degrees from West Texas State University, now West Texas A&M, BA in 1969 and MS in Education, 1974. Nova taught in Borger, Texas for 12 years, Great Bend and Ellinwood, Kan. for 20 years. She was proceeded in death by her late husband, Ronald Frick 1973. She later married Jack Bowman in 1980.
Nova was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Ellinwood, and member of the National Society Magna Charta Dames, DAR in Borger, First Families of the Twin Territories of OK, Daughter of the Republic of Texas, and Tennessee, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Calhoun County Michigan Genealogical Society. Nova enjoyed teaching all of her students as she specialized in reading. She loved hunting, fishing, and sports with Jack. She spent a lot of time on the road supporting Jack’s athletic coaching teams. She loved to crochet and sew and staying up-to-date in technology. She loved spending time cooking enchiladas for her family.
She is survived by her husband, Jack of the home; her children Mark (Gail) Frick of Amarillo, Texas, Debra Knight, Jim (Stephanie) Frick and Michael Frick all of Borger Texas. Jack’s children, Lonnie (Janet) Bowman of Basehor Kan., Jackie (Bill) Cook and Teresa (Rob) Long both of Great Bend, Kan. and Jill Bowman of Ellinwood, Kan. Her surviving brother, Earl Lavern (Fae) Smith of Borger, Texas. She is also special to her 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents.
The funeral will at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood, Kan. Memorials can be made to Ellinwood Grade School/Community Library or St. John’s Lutheran Church of Ellinwood in memory of Nova in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
