MACKSVILLE — Rafaela Chavez de Lopez, age 75, passed away Nov. 13 at Leisure Homestead, St. John.  She was born Oct. 24, 1938, at Villa Matamoros Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Francisco Chavez and Maria del Refugio Soltero.

She was a  homemaker and resident of Macksville for 14 years. She married Guerrero Lopez Soto, he is deceased.

Survivors include children, Maria del Refugio Torrez, Macksville,  Micaela Lopez Chavez, Macksville, Sandra A. Fernandez, Great Bend, Maria del Rosario Perez, El Paso, Texas, Guerrero Lopez, Macksville, Luis Alonso Lopez, Macksville, Magdalena Lopez, El Paso, Texas, Manuel Lopez, Larned, Angel Lopez, Macksville, Javier Lopez, Great Bend, Adrian Lopez, St. John, and Julio Cesar Chavez and Ivan Pinon, both of El Paso, Texas; brothers, Manuel, Juan and Jesus Chavez; sisters, Carmela Chavez, Ignacia Pinon and Maria Olga Dominguez; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, St. John with Fr. Floyd McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Farmington Cemetery, Macksville.  Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Friday with vigil rosary service starting at 7, at the Minnis funeral home in St. John.  Memorials may be given to the church in care of the funeral home.
