LARNED — Ralph C. Arnold, 88, died Sept. 5 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. Born Aug. 10, 1926 in Rozel, he was the son of Elmer and Bonnie (Compton) Arnold.
A lifetime area resident of Larned, he was an assistant to the superintendent at the Larned State Hospital. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Larned, the Larned Ambassadors and was the Ambassador of the year. He served on the City Council and was the Mayor of Larned for three two-year terms. He also served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60+ years. On May 29, of 1949 he married Laura Raffety in Manhattan. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Stan Arnold and wife Patsy, Grand Island, Neb.; two daughters: Dru Dougan and husband Derry, Larned, and Jane Grandy and Phil, Larned; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene Arnold and a sister, Martha Sauer.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Rev. Jack Singer presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery with military graveside rites.
