Richard L. "Monte" Landers 1931 - 2014

OTIS — Richard L. “Monte” Landers, 83, died June 25 at home in Otis. He was born March 12, 1931, at Osawatomie, the son of John A. and Annie (Fouts) Landers. Monte married Marilyn Stewart Dec. 30, 1951, at Garnett.  She died Feb. 9, 2010.
He served during Korean Conflict as a corporal in the Army from June 6, 1953, to May 25, 1955.  
Working for Missouri Pacific Railroad as a mechanic for 46 years, retiring in 1993, Monte was an Otis resident since 1989, coming from Hoisington. Monte, being a refined mechanic, was a passionate tinkerer.


Survivors include two sons, John Landers and wife Jenny of Otis, and Eric Landers and wife Kim of Hoisington; three daughters, Twila Milburn and husband Mike of Fulton, Lila Hoch of Great Bend, and  Mary Lynne Schneider and husband Daryl of Hoisington; one sister, Jonette McLain of Elk Grove, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Landers and Winford Landers; and two sisters, Naomi Goodwin and Eva Stockton.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with the Rev. Dick Ogle, officiant. Interment will be at Hoisington Cemetery in Hoisington, with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
