Robert L. “Bob” Brittain, 84, passed away Dec. 5, 2015, surrounded by family. He was born Jan. 30, 1931 in Shamrock, Okla., the son of Robert and Anna (Ricks) Brittain. Bob enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country from Oct. 1951 to Sept. 1953. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, at Ladd Field. He married Velda L. McMahan Jan. 1, 1954 in Cushing, Okla.
Bob and Velda became residents of Great Bend in 1957, after relocating from Tulsa. During his life, Bob worked for Phillips 66, and graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering. Bob and Velda owned and operated Brittains Western Wear for 31 years before retiring.
Survivors include one brother, Orvil Brittain of Griffin, Ga.; three sons, Leon Brittain and his wife Loretta of Great Bend, Randy Brittain of Great Bend, and Rick Brittain and his wife Heidi of Great Bend; and two grandsons Austin Brittain and Adrian Brittain. He was preceded in death by his wife Velda, his parents, three sisters and one brother.
A private family service will be held at a later time.
