Robert M. Gillette, O. D., 91, died June 23 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. Born May 14, 1921, at Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Harold and Laura Belle (McLaughlin) Gillette. He married Gretta Katherine Braddock on Oct. 15, 1949, at Dodge City. She died June 16, 1989. A Great Bend resident since 1957, coming from Memphis, Tenn., he was an optometrist with Drs. Reinhardt, Gillette and McCaulley, Great Bend.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
Dr. Gillette was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis, Petroleum Club, Barton Hills Golf Club, Kansas Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, Presbyterian Men, and Colorado Wheat Growers Association.
Survivors include one son, Robert L. Gillette, DVM and his wife Diana of Auburn, Ala.; one daughter, Becky Gillette of Great Bend; two brothers, Richard Gillette of Texas and John Gillette of Missouri; and two grandchildren, Brad Gillette and Max Gillette. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Gillette and Bill Gillette; and one sister, Laurine Patterson.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether, officiant. Interment will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas or First Presbyterian Church or Imprimis of Hillsdale College, in care of the funeral home.
