Roger Lee Brining 1964-2014

Roger Lee Brining, 49, died June 8, at Barton County, Kansas.  Born Nov. 21, 1964 at Great Bend, he was the son of Richard C. and Clarice E. (Hammond) Brining.
He married Erika Ullman Dec. 22, 1986 at Great Bend, where he was a lifetime resident and farmer.  He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1984 to 1988.
Mr. Brining was a member of First Assembly of God, where he was deacon for six years, active in Church dramas, volunteered in the sound booth, and hosted many Church events at the farm. He was also a member, serving as Past President and Treasurer, of the Experimental Aircraft Association (E.A.A.), also providing free flights through the Young Eagles Program; Model Association of Central Kansas (M.A.C.K.); member of No-Till on the Plains; Kansas Ag Research and Technology Association Board; Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development, volunteering for the Kids Ag Day, Fall Fest, and the Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo; and the City of Great Bend Airport advisory committee. He was also an Angel Flights volunteer, flying patients to various medical appointments; volunteered for the City of Great Bend Air Fest event, and won several conservation awards from the Kansas Bankers Association.  Being an active pilot for 25 years, Roger logged more than 1,580 flight hours.
Survivors include his wife, Erika Brining, of the home; his mother, Clarice Brining of Las Cruces, NM; one son, Robert Brining of the home, and two daughters Rachel Mawhirter and her husband Justin of Great Bend, and Rebecca Brining of the home; one sister, Linda Keener and husband Will of Las Cruces, NM; one brother, Robert Brining and wife Linda of Aspen, Colo.; and one grandson, Jace Mawhirter.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 12, at First Assembly of God in Great Bend with Pastor Dwight Dozier officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, at Bryant Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery, with military honors conducted by U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.  Memorials are suggested to Angel Flights Central, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.  Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net
