HOISINGTON — Ron L. VanNess, 58, passed away December 17, 2021, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. He was born November 1, 1963, in Abilene, Kan. to Danny and Betty (Machulda) VanNess.
Ron, a longtime resident of Hoisington, was a fabricator for KMW and was a member and current president of the Sons of American Legion, Post 286. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially at his shop where his construction and welding skills were exhibited in building smokers and various other mechanic projects. However, his construction projects were second to none to his BBQ accomplishments, as he competed for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Shelli Dreiling; two sons Colby VanNess and wife Shaylan of Abilene, and Kyler Dreiling of Hoisington; one daughter, Kinley VanNess of Hoisington; one sister, Brenda VanNess of Ottawa; two brothers, Randy VanNess and wife Brooke of Basehor, and Christopher Stoneberger of Andover; two grandchildren, Cillian VanNess and Casidee VanNess. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard VanNess, and father-in-law, Gary Dreiling.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with Ron Bailey presiding. Interment will follow at Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.
