Ronald. L. “Ron” Royer, 79, died Nov. 14, 2015, at Almost Home Inc. in Great Bend. Born April 6, 1936, in Sunbury, Pa., he was the son of John W. and Verna (Bartlow) Royer. On July 17, 1955, he married Fern D. Ochs in Otis. A resident of Great Bend since 1993, coming from Otis, he owned and operated Ochs Inc., of Otis. In his retirement, he enjoyed substituting for USD 428, gardening and woodworking.
Mr. Royer served in the United States Air Force earning the rank of Airman 2nd Class. He was a charter member of Grace Community Church of Great Bend, where he served as an elder and assisted with the Awana children’s ministry. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Otis EMS in 1972, and was past president of both the Rush County Memorial Hospital Board and Youthville. Ron served as past president of Western Farm Implement Dealers Association, and a member of Lionel Collectors Club of America.
Survivors include his wife, Fern D. Royer, of the home; three sons. Eric Royer and wife Shannon of Otis, Kurt Royer and wife Jacque of Great Bend, and Everett Royer and wife Stephanie of Otis; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Royer, John Royer and wife Sara, Kristen Ziegler and husband Justin, Renee Royer, and Sean Royer; two great-grandchildren, Collin McGinnis and Mason Royer; two step-grandsons, Nick Richter and wife Amber, and Jesse Richter and Stephanie Woodral; and three step-great-grandchildren, Kaito Richter, Briley Richter, and Braxton Richter.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Grace Community Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Jay Beuoy officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Otis Methodist Cemetery with military rites conducted the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Almost Home Inc. or Kans for Kids, in care of the funeral home.
