LARNED — Ruth I. Steffen, 78, died Feb. 1 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 11, 1933, in Ellinwood she was the daughter of Melvin Cornelius and Dora Flanders Kasselman. On March 30, 1952, she married Vern Steffen at Zook. He survives.

Mrs. Steffen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Rural Life of Farm Bureau, Country Club, Fort Larned Historical Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Gem Gals unit, all of Larned, and KAEOP and the Pinochle group of Burdett for 50 years.

Survivors include, her husband; two sons, Tony Steffen and wife Christin of Wichita and Craig Steffen and wife Janice of Lenexa; two brothers, Ralph Kasselman of Ponca City, Okla., and Max Kasselman of Andale; a sister, Linda Parr of Larned; and four grandchildren, Amanda Steffen, Samantha Steffen, Brock Steffen and Layne Steffen. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harlan Kasselman and Robert Kasselman; and a grandson, Kevin Steffen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Larned with Pastor Dennis Scheibmeir presiding. Burial will be at Brown’s Grove Cemetery in Burdett. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned.

Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church or the Welcome Inn Senior Center, both in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.beckwithmortuary.com.
