Sandra Sue “Sandy” Nation

WELLSVILLE, Mo. — Sandra Sue “Sandy” Nation, 78, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020 at St. Andrew’s at New Florence.

Mrs. Nation was born Jan. 27, 1942 in Mexico, Mo., a daughter of Francis Stone and Edna Marie (Spyres) Trower.

Sandy was a 1960 graduate of Montgomery County R-II High School. 

On July 1, 1961 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City, Mo., she married James Donald “Don” Nation. They were married over 58 years, before he preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2020. 

Sandy and Don had lived around Montgomery County until 1978. They moved to Great Bend, Kan. from 1978 -1989, before returning to Wellsville, where they made their home. 

In earlier years, Sandy had been a Certified Nurses Aid in Great Bend, Kan. She had also worked at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico for many years.  

She was a member of Church of the Resurrection in Wellsville

Sandy enjoyed reading the Readers Digest and the Angels magazine. She liked taking walks, swinging on the porch swing and playing cards. More than anything, she loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

Sandy is survived by her children and their spouses, James Donald “Donny” Jr. and Mary Nation, of Wellsville, Cynthia “Cindy” Sue and Dion Thurman, of Montgomery City, Penny Lea and Neal Dreiling, of Great Bend, Kan., Tina Jean and Steve Stark, of Kearney and Curtis Allen Nation, of Wellsville; 16 grandchildren, Lena (Marty), Rene (Mitch), Jared, Kayla (Matt), Travis, Jason (Ashley), Barbie (Ryan), Kacee (Rob), Katelyn (Bo), Leanna, Sara (Chris), Dylan, Carly, Brooke (Gage), Caleb and Addi; 15 great-grandchildren, Marley, Isaac, Caden, Kendall, Makinley, Evie, Cody, Skyla, Aurora, Tayla, Siarah, Bentley, Willa, Sophie, Lincoln and baby to be born; nephew, Robert Brandkamp, III and wife, Kathy, of Montgomery City; in addition to the Nation Family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Donald Nation Sr.; sisters, Shirley Faye Trower and Shelby Jean Brandkamp; and daughter-in-law, Nicki Nicole Nation.

A Celebration of Life for Sandy’s Family and Friends will be held on Monday, Oct. 5th at the home of her son, Donny’s house. Arrangements are under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
