HOISINGTON — Shawn Alan Ney, 33, died Dec. 10 in Great Bend. Born Dec. 16, 1977, in Hoisington, he was the son of Michael and Debra (Bennett) Ney. A lifelong resident of Barton County, he graduated from Barton Community College with an Associate in Science degree from the LPN program.

Mr. Ney was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a sports fan of the Yankees and the Chiefs, and enjoyed the outdoors and woodworking.

Survivors include his father, of Hoisington; two daughters, Caitlin Ney, of Great Bend, and Nicole Davis of Ellinwood; an adopted son, Dakota Ney, of Great Bend; a sister, Heather Marsh and husband Gary, of Great Bend; a brother, Heath Ney and wife Afton, of Hoisington; paternal grandmother, Margaret Ney, of Hoisington; maternal grandfather, Charles Bennett, of Hoisington; and maternal grandmother, Mary Orton, of Council Grove. He was preceded in death by his mother, Debra Ney; paternal grandfather, Francis Ney; step-grandfather, Buzz Orton and an uncle, Max Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at the St. John Church Cemetery in Hoisington.
