Sue Ellen Wheeler

Sue Ellen Wheeler, 77, passed away May 1, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born Jan. 26, 1945, in Great Bend, to Frank N. and Ellen Marie (Baier) Klepper. Sue married Miles I. Wheeler Sept. 21, 1963, in Great Bend. He died Jan. 3, 1993.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Sue worked in Quality Control at Fuller Brush and was a long standing employee at Walmart, serving as a cashier, working in the infant and toddler department and finally, a door greeter before retiring. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She enjoyed making fudge and knitting blankets and sweaters for her family and friends. 

Survivors include one son, Michael Wheeler and wife Kim of Great Bend; two daughters, Susan Wheeler of Great Bend and Sherry Miller and husband Ed of Hudson; two sisters, Cynthia Hogan of Kinsley and Carla Markovich of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Melanie Miller, Melissa Miller, Jared Wheeler (Tiffany), Ebony Moon, Malik Moon, Alisha Wheeler and Blake Wheeler; and 12 great grandchildren, Dalton Wheeler, Colton Wheeler, Jude Wheeler, Raina Garrard, Mallory Garrard, Cooper Garrard, Carter Garrard, MadiLynn Garrard, Kinnley Cape and Kyler Cape.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2022, at St. Rose Of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Prakeesh Kola presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with an Altar Society Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Vigil at 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to Kans for Kids or American Diabetes Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
