AUGUSTA — Sylvestra “Sally” B. Sigley, 89, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015. Born Feb. 23, 1926, in rural Barton County, she was the daughter Matt and Barbara (Heyne) Apel.
She attended grade and high school in Ellinwood. She married John Howard Sigley in Great Bend. In 1957 Sally and Howard moved to Augusta, where she lived the rest of her life. She worked for years at Bob’s Burger Bar and Dairy Queen, as well as IGA grocery store until she retired. She was a member of the Red Hat Group, The Harvest House Group and Altar Society of St. James Church. Sally loved playing cards at the Senior Center and pinochle with friends.
Survivors include her children, Karen M. Rowland of Wichita, Wayne (Jean) Sigley of Jacksonville, Fla., Rita (Dick) Barrett of Austin, Texas and Barbara Sigley of Augusta; brother, Norman Apel; sister, Jeanie (Dick) Miller; brother in law, Jim Wornkey; sister in law, Yvonne Apel. She leaves 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, Tom Johnson, and a great-grandson, Jacob Zinda, a sister, Theresa Wornkey and three brothers, Leroy, Pierrie and Harry Apel.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at St. James Catholic Church, burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Rosary will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Dec. 9, at Headley Funeral Chapel, Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church.
