BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Sylvia Byer, 82, passed away Aug. 29, 2020, in Bartlesville, Okla. She was born June 15, 1938, in LaCrosse, to George H. and Edith C. (Williams) Kaiser. Sylvia had previously been married William R. Byer. 

Sylvia, a long time Great Bend resident, previously living in Independence, Kan., was a retired school teacher for USD 431, Hoisington. She was a member of SCA, and enjoyed traveling, reading, camping, cooking, research in various middle age topics, photography and genealogy. 

Survivors include two sons, Troy Byer and wife Sandy of Great Bend, Von Byer and wife Tara of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Vicki Carvalho of Bartlesville, Okla. and Carla Shawn Byer of Great Bend; one sister, Carol Strobel of Hutchinson; and 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Morita Truman presiding. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or Animal Rescue Foundation of Bartlesville, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
