GREAT BEND — Velma Leona Johnson, 99, died March 11, 2014 at Sterling House of Great Bend.
She was born Feb. 11, 1915 at Bazine, the daughter of John Orville and Rose (O’Brien) Narey.
She married Herman Madison Johnson Feb. 26, 1938 at Great Bend. He died Oct. 25, 1987. She was a real estate agent for Goetz Realty, and sold Fashion 220 Cosmetics. Mrs. Johnson was a long-time Great Bend resident, also living in Los Angeles, Calif. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, David Johnson and his wife Deanna, Wichita; and Duane Johnson, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn (Bean) Brockel, Billings, Mont.; and Rachel Erin Johnson, Overland Park; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Brockel and Katelyn Brockel.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ep Narey, Jack Narey, Jim Narey, and Pat Narey, and three sisters, Judy Benton, Cora Jean Cantrell, and Melba Mackey.
Altar Society Rosary is scheduled at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Vigil Service is scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Celebrant Father Louis Trung Dinh Hoang. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial Funds are suggested to the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice or American Cancer Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
