Verna J. “Jean” Davis, age 92 years, of Great Bend, Kan. and formerly of Lewis, Kan. and Dodge City, Kan. passed away early on Tuesday morning, March 8, 2022 at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus in Great Bend. Jean was born on April 3, 1929 at Lewis, Kan. to John Lloyd and Stella Fern (Hainer) Robbins. She was a graduate of Lewis High School and lived in Lewis and Dodge City for most of her life. Jean was united in marriage to James A. Davis on Feb. 23, 1952 at Clayton, New Mexico. Together the couple owned and operated several motels in Liberal and Dodge City, Kan. until their retirement in 2006. Jean dearly loved fishing on their pontoon boat, traveling and camping, and the couple also enjoyed their “part-time homes” in Brownsville, Texas and Springfield, Mo.
Survivors include two sons, Mark (and Karly) Davis of Salina, Kan. and Mike (and Sylvia) Davis of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Alexus Davis and Jamie Davis; one great-grandson Noah Davis; and one brother William “W.R.” Robbins of Olathe, Kan. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James A. Davis on Jan. 16, 2010; her daughter Tammy Davis; one sister Betty Pauline Sloan and one brother Lloyd Ross Robbins.
Graveside funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Wayne Cemetery near Lewis, Kan. According to Jean’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
