Veta Mae Burress, 104, passed away December 25, 2020, at her home south of Great Bend.  She was born September 14, 1916, in Alma, Ark., to Porter Irving and Mertie (Hamby) Gregory. Veta married August A. Burress May, 1938, in Oklahoma.  He died Nov. 18, 1965.

Veta, a longtime resident of Great Bend, was a self-employed residential and office cleaner for many years.  She was a member of Church of Christ, Great Bend, and enjoyed the many social fellowship opportunities that the church had to offer.  Veta enjoyed vegetable gardening, flower gardening, baking, cooking, canning and hand stitched quilting. 

Survivors include one son, Glen Burress of Ellinwood; three daughters, Frieda Jobes of Great Bend, Wanda Dodson and husband Ron of Hays and Laveta Furthmeyer and husband Larry of Gorham; one daughter-in-law, Helen Burress; 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Rennie Burress and Leland McAlister; one daughter, Gloria Barrientez; two son-in laws, Gary Jobes and Bob Barrientez; two daughter-in-laws, Joyce Burress and Loralei McAlister; and five siblings.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Byron Barrientez presiding.  Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.  Visitation will be from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given to Church of Christ, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS  67530.
