Virginia “Ginny” Mae Sallee

INMAN — Virginia “Ginny” Mae Sallee, 94, passed away Sept. 7, 2022, at Hospice House Hutchinson, Kan.

She was born April 14, 1928, in rural Pawnee County, the daughter of Eli and Celia Weber Skelton. 

She was raised in Larned where she graduated high school. Upon graduation she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. She spent a period of time working as a dental receptionist in Great Bend where she was a resident for over 50 years. In her later years she devoted her time to volunteering at the Barton County Museum. She greatly enjoyed baking and could expertly design a holiday table. The family relied heavily on Ginny when organizing family gatherings. She was an excellent hostess who always made sure that her guests had a good time. She spent her final years at Pleasant View Home in Inman where she was loved by many.

On July 7, 1949, she married Norman Dean Sallee and together they had three children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Pete, Bob, Glenn, Russell, and Leo Skelton; four sisters, Erma Skelton, Verna Moorehead, Zesper Franz and Maxine Nelms; one nephew Dennis Franz; one son-in-law Neil Sternberg. Survivors include sons, Kenton Sallee (Donna), Inman; and Jeff Sallee (Leah), Valencia, Calif.; one daughter, Deanne Sternberg, Fallbrook, Calif.; six grandchildren, Eric Ireland, Amy Sallee, Katy Price, Drew Sternberg, Tyler Sternberg, and Lindsay Hoffberg; numerous great grandchildren. 

There will be no services and a graveside memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorial contributions be made in Virginia’s name to the Inman Public Library in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550.
