Virginia R. "Ginny" Sundahl

Virginia R. “Ginny” Sundahl, 89, formerly of McPherson, passed away on Sept. 17, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilatation. Born on Feb. 15, 1926, in Marquette, she was the daughter of Mildred Josephine (Vann) and Ray Thomas Boydston. She attended the McPherson schools and she graduated from McPherson High School 1944. On Sept. 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edwin Bridgeman “Sunny” Sundahl at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McPherson. Sunny died on March 29, 2005. Ginny was a homemaker and also worked as a secretary for USD 418 McPherson and McPherson College for a number of years.
Mrs. Sundahl was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in McPherson, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and EHU, both of McPherson.
Survivors include her children, Tom Sundahl and his wife Robin, of Olathe, Kevin Sundahl and his wife Nancy, of Great Bend, Laura Smysor and her husband Frank, of Lawrence, and Susan Ryan and her husband Mike, of Augusta, Ga.; her eight grandchildren, Mark Sundahl, Kristian Sundahl and his wife Andi, Lukas Sundahl and his wife Sara, Shane Sundahl and his wife Wendy, Joe Smysor and his wife Gala, Matt Smysor and his fiancé Becca, Amanda Ryan, and Kevin Ryan; and seven great-grandchildren, Slade Sundahl, Darby Sundahl, Jakoby Sundahl, Dylan Sundahl, Henrik Sundahl, Samuel Smysor, and Natalie Smysor. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband “Sunny” Sundahl; and a brother Thomas Wesley Boydston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson with Father Hien Nguyen officiating. Friends are invited to call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday with rosary following at 8:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in McPherson. Burial will be at the McPherson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
