Vivian M. Chalfant, 75, died Aug. 8 at her home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 21, 1936, in Annes, she was the daughter of Johnny and Mildred (Thompson) True. On April 5, 1958, she married Don Chalfant in Hutchinson. A resident of Great Bend for 48 years, coming from Hays, she was a retired secretary.
Mrs. Chalfant was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was kitchen coordinator for many years, Joy Group, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Exercise Coffee Group, and Red Hat Society.  She was a volunteer for the Barton County Food Bank and the Blood Mobile.
Survivors include her husband,, of the home; a son, Mark Chalfant and his wife Tammy of Manhattan; a daughter, Cindy Hubbell and her husband Steve of Spearville; two sisters, Janet Piercy of Overland Park and Freda Pitt of Del City, Okla.; and five grandchildren, Drew Hubbell and wife Ashley, Sarah Connelly and husband Blake, Tara Chalfant, Matt Chalfant and Jeff Hubbell. She was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway Ave. in Great Bend with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the  First Christian Church Kitchen Restoration Fund, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
