WICHITA — Walter Harold Dietz Nov. 23, 1934 – March 26, 2022
Walter Dietz, 87, passed away at his Wichita, Kan. home where he and his wife of 65 years raised their family. He answered the Lord’s call as he had his entire life, serving his community and church faithfully.
A celebration of Walter’s life will take place on Saturday, April 2, at Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N. Hillside St, Wichita, KS. Visitation is at 10 a.m. Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Following graveside committal at Resthaven Cemetery, a meal will be shared at Christ Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials go to Christ Lutheran Church.
Walter was born in Galatia, Kan. to Solomon and Minnie Dietz, who preceded him in death, as did his five siblings, Martin, Ruth, Emil, Robert, and Dorothy.
Walter graduated from Kansas State College with a degree in Electrical Engineering and a ROTC commission as 2nd Lt. in the US Army Reserve in January 1957. He continued to support the Beta Sigma Psi fraternity mission.
Walter married Margaret Ann Kaiser Aug 26, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran church, Otis, Kan. They moved to Ft. Monmouth, N.J. in February 1957 where he served on active duty as 1st Lt. in the US Army Signal Corps at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. from 1957 to 1959. They returned to Wichita, Kan. in March 1959 where Walter was employed by Boeing for 31 years, performing engineering roles for Boeing including Engineering Subcontracts Manager on challenging military programs.
Walter was a lifelong violinist and shared a love of classical music with Margaret; they often performed violin / piano duets.
Walter’s family joined Christ Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kan. in 1959 where he served 27 years on the church council and sang in the choir for many years.
Walter is survived by wife Margaret; son David (Moira) in Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter Janice (Robert Wessa) in Ovilla, Texas; daughter Gloria (Steve Peacock) in Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
