ELLINWOOD — Warren "Swanee" Oliver Johnson, 90, died June 4 at Country Place Senior Living in Ellinwood. Born May 27, 1921 in Ellinwood, he was the son of Edward John Johnson and Della Unruh. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. A longtime resident of Ellinwood, formerly of Oklahoma and Texas, he was an independent petroleum geologist. On Sept. 13, 1948 he married Helen Dowdy in Phoenix, Ariz. She died on Sept. 12, 2009.
Mr. Johnson was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Rotary Club, Grove Park Golf Club, all of Ellinwood, the Kansas Geological Society, and the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association.
Survivors include his two sons, Wade and Denise Johnson of Reno, Nev. and Mark Johnson of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Jan and Phil Roth of Topeka; a Cypriot Exchange student son, Thomas Constantinides; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at the Immanuel UCC in Ellinwood with the Rev. Debbie Rains officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Ellinwood Rotary Club.
