GREAT BEND — Wendell Donovan Hinkson, 75, died Aug. 31, 2016 at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita.
He was born Nov. 30, 1940 at Wichita, the son of Donovan John and Elvie Mae (Shank) Hinkson. He married Maxie A. (Cox) Saville October 1, 1978 at Junction City. Coming to Great Bend in 1988 from Hutchinson, Mr. Hinkson was a funeral director at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home until his retirement in 2006 after 50 years of service to the profession. He was a United States Army Reserve veteran.
Mr. Hinkson was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Central Kansas Photography Club, Barton County Historical Society, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and the NRA. He was a former Great Bend Rotary Club member, where was a Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed motorcycling, photography, crafting, woodworking and leather work. He also held a private pilot’s license.
Survivors include his wife Maxie Hinkson, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly S. Newell and her husband Roger, Salina; and Sherri L. Reed, Salina; sister-in-law, Jeline Hinkson; two grandchildren, Brett Newell and Cory Newell; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Bryson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Dr. Kent T. Hinkson.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home, with the Reverend Dick Ogle and Reverend Keith Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Crandall Union Cemetery, Ness County.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are requested to American Heart Association or First Southern Baptist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
