William Wesley Olivey

William Wesley Olivey, 82, passed away Aug. 10, 2020, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. He was born on Feb. 2, 1938, at Tupper Lake, New York, to Harold and Vera (Foote) Olivey. He married Mary Ann Mikesell on April 20, 1958, at Idaville, Ind. She died July 17, 2015. 

A Great Bend resident since 2014, William was a retiree of the United States Navy, having served as a Master Chief Avionics Technician. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend. While in high school and the Navy, William excelled at basketball. He enjoyed the world travel that the Navy offered and was an avid golfer, sports fan and reader.  

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Rhan of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Megan Guinn and husband Justin, Sabrina Doonan and husband Darren, and Wesley Olivey and wife Kristin; and six great grandchildren, Caden, Kaylee, Khloee, Stella, Jaxon, and Landon. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Olivey; his mother and step father, Vera and James Madison; his wife, Mary Ann Olivey; and a son, James Olivey.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Private family services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, with Pastor Chris Lehew presiding, and a public livestream will be available to view at www.bryantfh.net under William’s obituary. A private family inurnment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery North at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
