Wilmer “Wimpy” Sander, 80, died Aug. 19 at his home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 14, 1931 in Victoria, he was the son of Joe J. and Adeline (Meis) Sander. On Feb. 12, 1952 he married Norma Jean Engel in Ellis. A resident of Great Bend for 54 years, coming from Otis, he was a meat cutter for McCurdy Locker, Wimpy’s Meat and Locker Service and Central Kitchen.
Mr. Sander was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Sander of the home; one son, Keith Sander and his wife Shirley (Dreiling) of Turpin, Okla.; three daughters, Kathy Levingston and companion Marvin Ward and Karen Lofland and her husband James A., both of Great Bend, and Kimberly Donovan and her husband Kenton of Hoisington; one brother, Francis Sander of Jacksonville, Ark.; two sisters, Armella Johnson of Lewisberg, W.V. and Wanita “Sandy” Basgall of Great Bend; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin Sander, Melvin Sander, and Gilbert Sander; and two sisters, Leona VonFeldt and Cecelia Dreiling.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. A family rosary will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery.
