GBHS grads to be honored Sunday

Congratulations to the graduating seniors of 2021.

Those at Great Bend High School will celebrate their commencement at 5 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Stadium. The graduates and their families are looking forward to the “Pomp and Circumstance” march and throwing their caps into the air or turning their tassels.

Graduates, you might think this ceremony is all about you, but that is not entirely correct. Your friends and family who have watched you grow and guided you along the way see this as an opportunity to partake in the celebration of your achievements. Share the moment with your crew.

Over a lifetime (so far), you’ve learned so much, made so many friends and memories. Whether it was everything you hoped it would be or not, you’ve shown that you were strong enough to stick with it and reach this epic milestone.

There is more to learn, which is why there are graduation speeches and inspirational quotes. Many of them note that this is not the end, it’s the beginning of a new chapter in life. The wisest advice usually notes that it isn’t meant to be too easy. For example, author Neil Gaiman said, “Now go, and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for you being here. Make good art.”

Actress/producer/director Kerry Washington advises, “Your life is your story, and the adventure ahead of you is the journey to fulfill your own purpose and potential.”

Best wishes on your journey.
