Dear Subscribers,
Today we make the announcement that we will be changing our publishing days of the Tribune to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, starting Tuesday, April 11, 2023, and also on this date we will transition from being delivered to your home by carrier to mail delivery by the U.S. Postal Service.
This decision was not lightly formed; it was a difficult one made after months of agonizing over the options.
So why the change to mail delivery? It’s a combination of costs, labor availability and our desire to have your newspaper delivered on time and accurately. The contract carriers we have are dependable and deliver to homes without visible addresses, in the worst weather conditions and in the middle of the night, but there are not enough of them. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, every business has had trouble hiring help and the Tribune is not the exception.
In the past year and a half our staff from all departments, including circulation, advertising, pre-press and editorial, have been out delivering newspapers in an attempt to fill the gaps.
A special dispatch for newspapers is in place at the local post offices that is intended to deliver newspapers the same day as publication. With no Sunday mail delivery, we opted to switch to a Saturday delivery, which led to changing the other days of the week. While postal delivery isn’t the perfect solution, as some people receive their mail later than others, we’d rather they get it later in the day than not get it at all. Although, if you are someone that wants to read the paper with your morning cup of coffee there is the digital edition that is available by 4 a.m., exclusively to our subscribers who provide us their email address. Subscribers also have unlimited access to our website gbtribune.com. and can read many complete articles before the paper is published.
The Saturday edition will include all the extra features, puzzles and sales inserts currently found in the Sunday paper, and will now also include color comics and the Friday night sports results.
This conversion will make the reported news timelier and more relevant for all subscribers.
Thank you for your continued support of not just this newspaper but of all local media. We pledge to continue to support you and the good things happening in this community.
Sincerely,
Judy Duryee
