Dear Editor,
This is just a reminder to everyone. You know of all the scams today, but never think it would happen in your own town.
Well, there is another going around Great Bend, one from a handy man who calls himself a contractor. He says he is out of the service, trying to find a job. He is very reasonable in price and can start right now. He wants half down, which is fine.
Then, during the week, he asks for $20 here and $20 there. He wants cash, not a check, needs new tires, then gas money.
Then he blames you for not having the materials on hand for him, instead of picking them up himself.
Then he works only three hours or two hours or four hours a day, or he doesn’t come at all, even won’t call.
Then he says he can set his own hours, not work your hours.
Then, after he never gets anything done, going from one job to another in the house, he demands the rest of the money for jobs not done.
When I said, “My son is coming over to talk,” he picks up what tools he brought, leaves the house a big mess and walks out.
I said, “this means things are null and void.” He says, “yes.”
Everyone, be careful who you hire. Just because he is reasonable does not mean he is trustworthy.
Have a written contract, have references and have his own tools so he doesn’t use yours.
