Glad for intersection improvement

Dear Editor,
I read the Great Bend Tribune article: “Improvements coming to 10th and Grant”(May 15 issue). First, I am glad that the city of Great Bend is signing an agreement for Kansas Department of Transportation to make improvements at that intersection. I have crossed that intersection many times, since my late mother Gloria (Riedl) Marples was born in Great Bend.
I always love to visit Great Bend with its fine streets, many named for former U.S. Presidents. I know that the intersection was 10th and Grant but I know there is a Kennedy Street too named for the late President John F. Kennedy, whose 100th birthday would have occurred in a few days.
JFK was born May 29, 1917, at Brookline, Mass. I would hope that everyone who drives their car on the streets of Great Bend, no matter which intersection, will take a moment to remember the legacy of President Kennedy, a century after his birth. Just like our roads, that President had a “vision” to show us a “path” to the future. He is remembered by many.

James A. Marples
