Dear Editor,
Do you remember the drought we had last summer, and the summer before that? Now imagine what would have happened if Kansas farmers didn’t have drought tolerant seed. Farmers wouldn’t have a harvest, food companies would have less product to sell and Kansans would all be paying higher grocery prices.
Thankfully, GMOs (genetically modified organisms) have produced such things as drought tolerant seed so that life can go on during these types of situations. Yet anti-GMO activists are pushing labeling mandates in states across the country that would hurt this important technology.
I hope Senator Pat Roberts supports The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act that was introduced in Congress. It allows the FDA to oversee voluntary, standard label requirements for every state. So it keeps costs down for families, farmers and businesses, while not stopping something that is good for so many people.
