Dear Editor,
The Tribune’s Jan. 20 article, “Wetlands program will grow in 2011,” noted the expanded benefits springing from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at Cheyenne Bottoms.
To my mind, some of the recognition for the growth of Kansas Wetlands is due to the leadership of former governor, Mike Hayden.
His role has been pivotal in making the center happen, and while coordinating the creation of the center, he has helped to preserve a lot of local history.
Mike’s humble dedication to serve goes back a lot of years. Following his loss of the governorship, Mike Hayden was picked by President George H.W. Bush for an Interior Department position.
Using that experience, Mike Hayden returned to Kansas and served in the administrations of governors Graves, Sebelius and Parkinson.
Irrespective of partisan politics, Mike Hayden has kept his eye on the fixed star’s position of service.
Mike’s stewardship embodies the old tennis coach’s maxim: “He who serves well, seldom loses.”
Mike Hayden has served the people of Kansas and this area very well for many years.
