Kansas should cut exemptions
Placeholder Image

Dear Editor,
During the 1950s, as a full-time attorney for Kansas Department of Revenue, I completely revised, indexed and recodified all of the sales tax rules and regulations.
Now when schools, disabled persons and so many others are suffering from state budget cuts, special interests should be required to wear a big sign around their necks, announcing that the Kansas Legislature exempts them from sales taxes that the rest of us must pay.
Ask Department of Revenue for a list of all sales tax exemptions.
If just some of these exemptions were repealed there would be absolutely no need to cut the budget, nor to continue collecting the extra penny of sales tax passed last year.
William T. Davitt,
