Dear Editor,
The election is Nov. 6, what are your plans? In the primary, the missing group was the 20 to 40 year olds! The outcome of this election will have a major impact on your lives and there is no excuse for your apathy. On Nov. 6 you will have two choices. If the Brownback conservatives are elected, here’s where we are headed, judges will be solely appointed by the governor and eventually the Kansas Supreme Court, school vouchers which would enable private-parochial-home schools to receive state funding, freeze current levels for most school districts and give districts more authority to raise local property taxes, education funding will be decreased to pay for the tax cuts from Brownback’s tax plan, sales tax at the current level will be permanent, no expansion of Medicaid, SRS will continue to decrease services, and fewer businesses will come to Kansas due to the erosion of public schools which means fewer jobs. Kansas paid $40 million of your tax dollars to bribe AMC Theaters to move from Missouri to Kansas. Is this how your tax dollars should be spent? We do not believe this is the direction Kansas should be heading and your vote for a sensible legislature is all that stands in the way of it happening. In the last election the Kansas and Wichita Chambers partially funded by the Kochs and Murfins, put in over $3.5 million to defeat the Republican moderates in the primary. Be prepared for this to continue until they are able to control all branches of government. If this isn’t the Kansas you want, your choice is to elect Democrats to replace the moderate Republicans defeated in the primary.
