Dear Editor,
I went to the courthouse square for Alicia DeBolt’s memorial and I witnessed the Westboro Baptist Church group with their hate signs saying that God killed our children and God hates America. I think it is a sure bet that these people will not be going to see God or Jesus Christ when they pass on. This is not what Christianity is about.
Neither is about burning the Koran.
I witnessed the people gathered around yelling profanities at these God forsaken people and it is my observation that we as a community would have been better served if all of the people present would have formed a circle around them and then just turned their backs until these hateful people left.
I don’t really understand what sick kicks they get from doing what they do but I do know that they are seeking the publicity and that they thrive on it. If every community they go to would just turn their backs on these people and ignore them and the news crews would stop covering them then I believe they would fade away like the bad dream they are. If they think their God hates America then they are either terrorist sympathizers or their God is not our God, or both. I want to thank the Patriot Riders for the work they do in this respect and I think they will see God when they pass on.
