Dear Editor,
The recent lead editorial by Chuck Smith made a mountain out of a mole hill.
In 2002, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott lost his leadership position over an insensitive comment about race relations.
At the time, it seemed to me an apology would be appropriate, but treating his comment as a career ending incident was an over reaction.
The recent editorial suggesting politicians who pointed out the insensitive comment of a fellow state legislator about skin color should have their careers end also seemed to me to be wrong.
Two wrongs do not make a right.
People make mistakes and should be allowed to apologize and get on with their lives.
Kent Roth,
Ellinwood
Sorry should be enough
