Stein will address local property taxes

Dear Editor,
There are many reasons that I support Christina Stein, and I would encourage voters in the 11th District to join me. I am impressed with her energy and her vision for central Kansas. She saw a need for someone to advocate for our communities, and instead of sitting back and complaining she is giving of herself to make changes for the better.
Christina Stein is committed to our community. In the time Bill Wolf has spent in Topeka, he has not advanced the interests of the people of the llth District. Many of his donations originated from political action committees and corporations outside of our district. He is unable to balance the needs of the lobbyists with the needs of the people. Christina, on the other hand, is not trying to pander to big money. She has spent the last few months walking and canvassing to hear the needs from people in our community — the farmers, ranchers and the small business people that are our life blood. She will be there for us in Topeka.
One way that Christina Stein will be there for us is by examining sales tax exemptions so that state money is used only to draw business and quality jobs to Kansas and is not given to industries that would be forced to use Kansas anyway. By examining sales tax and property tax exemptions, more money could be freed up to meet the vast needs of our state instead of wastefully given to lobbyist backed industry. Our taxes are higher so that their taxes can be lower. Christina will work to stop this practice.
Additionally, Christina will work to prevent an increase in local property taxes. She believes that securing adequate funding for our schools at the state level is necessary to protect our local citizens from an increase in property taxes. Barton County does not have as large of tax base as counties like Johnson County. Christina believes that if the state fails to do its part to fund schools, then we would not only have a lower quality of education for our children, but we would also have much higher local property taxes.
Christina Stein has a plan to stimulate the economy and increase jobs by drawing people out to our area with job skills training. Businesses need an educated work force. Her opponent seems to think the drain of people from our area is inevitable. We need someone who is willing to work at rebuilding the economy of the 11th District.
Finally, Christina is committed to defending those in our community that need it the most. She wants to see that our senior citizens, disabled people and children are protected. She believes that we need to be proactive and preserve services that would assist elderly in staying in their home. These senior services not only save tax money but provide a better quality life for our most valued citizens.
Please join me in casting a vote for Christina Stein.
