Dear Editor,
Thank you for the article Karen La Pierre wrote about us (“Hiking Humanitarian” walks through Great Bend).
I want to add that after leaving Great Bend we encountered one of the highlights of our entire journey, the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area.
This is an international reserve for a major migratory route. The most numerous wayfarers are geese, both Canadian and Snow, but we encountered ducks, sandpipers, herons, pheasants, hawks and blackbirds as well. There may have been hundreds of thousands of geese on the lake as we passed by, a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle to behold.
You can listen to them in a video podcast I created and included on my blog post for that day at www.hikinghumanitarian.com
This is truly a treasure right outside Great Bend.
