To the editor:

I ran across a quote tonight that had a powerful effect on me. Some attribute it to Soviet Union leader Nikita Khrushchev in 1959, while others say it comes from an unknown source. It’s importance is not who actually said it, but that it has proven to be remarkably accurate down through the years.

“You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept communism outright, but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you’ll finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you’ll fall like overripe fruit into our hands.” 

Look at our society today. Our huge national debt, stagnant economy, inflation, “wokeness,” the Freedom Act, cancel culture, out of control immigration and welfare spending, and gigantic squandering of taxpayers’ money by our liberal socialists have us on the brink of socialism. And the very sad thing is that we have done it to ourselves through ego, stupidity, corruption and the lust for money and power without a shot being fired by our foreign enemies.

We are so very close to becoming a communist country; a poor election choice or a major poor decision away. I believe that if Hillary had been elected in 2016, if Biden had not been so blatantly obvious that he was trying to destroy the country with his early decisions in 2021 or Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema had not courageously held their ground on the enormous sums Biden wanted to spend on his “Build Back Better” nonsense, we would already be living in a fascist, socialistic country which in another few years would look like China, Venezuela, Russia or North Korea.

We may not have another chance. We must vote intelligently and responsibly in the upcoming mid-term elections or be forced to sit idly by and continue to watch the death of the United States of America by suicide.
