This is my prayer for Jonah Turner.
And my thanks to two Good Samaritans.
I don’t know Jonah, but I am rooting for him. We should all be rooting for Jonah.
He’s the 9-year-old youngster from Aurora, Colorado who lost his grandparents and older brothers in a tragic car accident May 28 in Ellsworth County.
Jonah might appear to have a challenging life ahead of him. He’s lost his grandparents and two older brothers.
But there is a reason why Jonah survived.
Jonah has been upgraded to fair condition at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He’s been transferred from intensive care into the hospital’s pediatric ward.
I predict great things are ahead for Jonah. I see him as a smart youngster, a survivor who has overcome the odds.
I see Jonah as someone who will grow up helping others. He will pass on his gift of life by helping others.
I also celebrate the heroism of Ellsworth’s Mike Homeier and Topeka’s Sean Petersen. They were the Good Samaritans who rescued Jonah from a burning vehicle on I-70.
They didn’t ask to rescue a youngster from death’s door.  They ignored their own safety knowing it was the right thing to do.
Homeier crossed four lanes of traffic and jumped a fence to provide assistance. Petersen was driving on an access road next to I-70 when he witnessed the accident. Homeier and Petersen broke out windows in the Cadillac Escalade and worked together to pull Jonah Turner from the burning vehicle.
They will be happy to know Jonah is getting better.
We should all wish for friends like Mike Homeier and Sean Petersen.
God bless them.
