Myriad of events prove successful

Great Bend was hopping this past weekend with yet another Bikes, Bombers and Butterflies Weekend. The multitude of events drew scores of spectators and attendees for all over to commune with nature, feel an adrenalin rush or touch history.

On Saturday, families could check out the Mad About Monarchs Event at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center and help Tag Monarch Butterflies that morning.

On Friday and Sataurday, it was the Hans Brothers Motorcross Shootout where riders of all ages were on the track racing for the best time or best jump height on their motorbikes.

And, last but not least, there was the three days of the Great Bend Airfest with over 20 vintage warbirds, displays, tours, simulators, historical re-enactors and so much more.

First, kudos to all those involved. It takes a lot of time, planning, organization, man hours and volunteers to make these things happen, and happen so flawlessly.

Those behind the scenes worked hard to pull off these activities. In doing so, they demonstrated their passion for the community.

Secondly, kudos to all of those who attended and took part. It has been said there is nothing to do in Great Bend, but this proves that misguided adage wrong.

There is plenty to do, we just have to chose to get involved.

This was an incredible weekend to be in and around Great Bend.
