It seems like all our work is going for nothing, we work and work and get stabbed in the back for our efforts to make things better and then, out of nowhere, everything comes together and — success!
It really does work that way sometimes. A lot of the times, actually, if we are working for the right things.
Cleta Winslow experienced it recently.
She is a member of the Atlanta, Ga. city council and she was in the middle of a crime prevention meeting when two teens decided to burglarize her home.
Cleta was doing her best to make her hometown and better place in which to live. She was working to encourage her fellow citizens to be safe. She was using her vocational skills to make life better for others.
You know — all the things that those of us who get involved so frequently get bad-mouthed for.
Two 14-year-olds and two 15-year-olds — with gang affiliations — broke in and pretty well cleaned her out, including her plasma TV, according to the Associated Press report.
Fortunately for Winslow, what she was advocating in the crime prevention meeting is actually working in Atlanta.
A neighbor was suspicious about the car that was at her house and called the police.
They caught the two and some of her property was recovered.
Someone needs to build a fire under the two thieves until the rest is returned.
Whatever happens, Cleta has the last laugh. They got caught and she continues to alert others to work together to make their community better for the citizens and worse for the crooks.
Way to go Cleta!
